Peas in my Coffee

Yesterday was Monday.
And goodness was it a Monday!

I am seriously blessed to have several kid free hours each day when all 3 are in school. I need those hours to do pretty much everything. Once the kids come home it’s austin screaming, the girls doing homework, and total chaos. Especially on the nights Mike  gets to leave has to work.

Yesterday morning I was feeling pretty good about life. I got the bathrooms cleaned and picked up the garage (yes, I try to keep a clean garage lol). I unloaded the dishwasher and did several loads of laundry.

I listened to praise music and read my devotional.

I was feeling on top of things.

I put a huge pile of clean laundry on the couch so that I would be forced to fold it, but of course I got distracted and forgot about it.

I remembered it after the kids came home.

I was helping the girls with their homework-also known as losing my mind while they both whined for my help-when I went to check on Austin.

And there was the clean laundry.
In a huge pile on the floor where he’d thrown it so that there would be nothing on the couch except for himself and his 2 monkey blankets. Perfect!

At that point he was content sitting in his spot and rocking so I left the laundry where it was and went back to the girls and getting Mike’s dinner ready so he could eat before leaving.

I let Austin feed himself his dinner…he needs to work on those fine motor skills ya know…and it ended up all over the place.

I stood there with the mountain of laundry on the living room floor,  and Austin’s dinner all over the kitchen and dining room. I counted how many more hours till bedtime, and took a sip of my coffee.

The flavor was slightly off.

I took another sip and something chunky filled my mouth, so I ran to the sink and poured the coffee out.

It was full of Austin’s PEAS from the dinner he’d thrown all over the place.

Sometimes ya just gotta laugh.

Laugh and squish my cuddly boy and kiss his chubby cheeks.

Laugh and ignore the DISASTER my house so quickly became after all my work that morning.

Laugh and forget about autism and remember that one day in spite of the exhaustion and the chaos, I will miss those chubby cheeks and my mischievous 4 year old.

I probably won’t ever miss the peas in my coffee though 😉
